The Distinguished Flying Cross National Memorial

The Distinguished Flying Cross Memorial at Riverside's March Field Air Museum has been designated by Congress as a national memorial. This designation gives long-overdue recognition to the courageous military aviators in California and across America who have distinguished themselves by heroism in aerial flight.

The Distinguished Flying Cross National Memorial is located in the Heritage Courtyard. In 2009, California District 44 Congressman Kenneth S. Calvert introduced H.R. 2788 into the U.S. House of Representatives " to desiginate a Distinguished Flying Cross National Memorial at the March Field Air Museum, Riverside, CA". Senator Barbara Boxer,CA prepared a Companion bill for the U.S. Senate. The ground-breaking ceremony was held on April 30, 2010; the dedication ceremony was held on October 27, 2010. On July 25, 2014 President Obama sign legislation designating the Distinguished Flying Cross Memorial at March Field Air Museum a National Monument.
